چکیده

Mathematical modelers from different disciplines and regulatory agencies worldwide agree on the importance of a careful sensitivity analysis (SA) of model-based inference. The most popular SA practice seen in the literature is that of ’one-factor-at-a-time’ (OAT). This consists of analyzing the effect of varying one model input factor at a time while keeping all other fixed. While the shortcomings of OAT are known from the statistical literature, its widespread use among modelers raises concern on the quality of the associated sensitivity analyses. The present paper introduces a novel geometric proof of the inefficiency of OAT, with the purpose of providing the modeling community with a convincing and possibly definitive argument against OAT. Alternatives to OAT are indicated which are based on statistical theory, drawing from experimental design, regression analysis and sensitivity analysis proper. 2010 Elsevier Ltd. Re-citation Analysis: A Promising Method for Improving Citation Analysis for Research Evaluation, Knowledge Network Analysis, Knowledge Representation and Information Retrieval

Citation analysis is used in research evaluation exercises around the globe, directly affecting the lives of millions of researchers and the expenditure of billions of dollars. It is therefore crucial to seriously address the problems and limitations that plague it. Central amongst critiques of the common practice of citation analysis has long been that it treats all citations equally, be they ...

A SENSITIVITY ANALYSIS FOR ENHANCING IDA EFFICIENCY IN FRAGILITY ANALYSIS OF 3D REINFORCED CONCRETE FRAMES

Due to several uncertainties  which  affect structural responses of Reinforced concrete (RC) frames,  it is sensibly required  to  apply  a vulnerability analysis tool such as fragility curve. To  construct an analytical fragility curve, the incremental dynamic analysis (IDA) method has been extensively used as an applicable seismic analysis too...

How to Set up an Effective Food Tax?; Comment on “Food Taxes: A New Holy Grail?”

Whereas public information campaigns have failed to reverse the rising trend in obesity, economists support food taxes as they suggest they can force individuals to change their eating behavior and make the agro-food industry think more about healthy food products. Excise taxes based on the unhealthy nutrient content would be more effective since they impact more on unhealthy food products than...

Sensitivity Analysis of Single Flexible Link Based on Sobol\'s Method

In this research the sensitivity analysis of the geometric parameters such as: length, thickness and width of a single link flexible manipulator on maximum deflection (MD) of the end effector and vibration energy (VE) of that point are conducted. The equation of motion of the system is developed based on Gibbs-Appel (G-A) formulation. Also for modeling the elastic property of the system the ass...
